CMGE review - overextended chart

Going into the day I had a ton on watch and tried to pick the best one w/relatively low risk with a high reward and eventually focused on CMGE. Of course I had other trades but nothing worth building upon.

This is what I saw as I was preparing for the day, a textbook over-extended chart.

Unfortunately it gapped down BUT luckily for me there were some chasers and some momo buyers squeezing up the stock. When it seemed to top out around $29.30's I played to my bias and entered my short position hitting the bid w/a risk to .50's. If it kept going up I would've kept adding around a core until it broke HOD.
In the event that it broke HOD I would take my losses and re-enter. (I only risk about 2-3% of my account at any given time.)

You can see here it topped at .30's and had a lower high. I added to my already winning position to create a larger position anticipating the 29 crack (notice the high vol on the crack) and fade to my target, 27 for a clean 2pt gain. Went as low as 25, gap filled, then dipped a bit below 23. (6pt potential gain)

GOOD
  • Had a goal of sticking closer the price targets I have upon entering a trade - check.
  • Focused on one or two stocks and try to nail entries better and with more size - check.
  • When I have the mentality to swing the stock short or long, this helps with my patience, emotion, and comfort level in the trade. (Conviction)
  • Getting better at reading daily charts and pin-pointing my entries upon them.
  • Less scalpy, trading more of the bigger picture idea.

BAD
  • Covered all when I should have covered 1/2 or 3/4 (since account building mode) and ride 1/2 or 1/4 to my second price target.
  • Had another chance to re-enter on the short side after the initial flush and short coverings but did not enter.

IMPROVE
Perfect my entries
Depending on the chart, cover in portions with a general price target area in mind.
Don't be afraid to re-enter even after closing out position.
Once I have a nice cushion in my account, I plan on swinging short these over-extended charts.
Take a greater amount of profits off the table relative to the (potential) amount left on the table.
